How to clip a moment from a YouTube video

    Paste a YouTube link

    Watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, live streams and embed links all work.

    Trim the clip

    Drag the handles on the overview timeline, then fine-tune on the zoomed one. Keep going to make several clips from the same video.

    Save to get a short link. Share it, embed it, show it as a QR code, or add it to a lesson.

Like YouTube’s Clip feature, which was retired

YouTube once let viewers share a short looping segment of a video. That feature has been retired. LessonCues brings the same idea back for any video that allows embedding, and adds practice controls, notes and lessons.

A clip is a link, not a new video file

Most clip makers download the video and cut a new file. That takes time, loses quality and takes the video away from its creator. A clip here is only the video ID plus a start and end time. It plays in YouTube’s own player, so the creator keeps the view and the credit, and nothing is stored or re-uploaded.

What you can do with a clip

  • Add notes, with timestamps that jump to that moment.
  • Make many clips from one video, or import them from a list of timestamps or the video’s chapters.
  • See every public clip from a video on one page and play them back to back.
  • Embed a clip on your own site, or share it to Google Classroom.

Questions

Is this clip maker free?

Yes. Making and sharing clips is free. Clips made without an account are deleted after 30 days; sign in with Google to keep them.

Can I download the clip as a video file?

No. LessonCues never downloads videos. Clips always play from YouTube in its official player, which keeps them within YouTube’s rules and credits the creator.

Why won’t some videos play?

Some video owners turn off embedding, and those videos can only be watched on YouTube itself. Private and removed videos can’t be played either.

Can I make clips from a Short or a live stream?

Yes. Paste the Short or live link. Recorded live streams work like any other video.
