Loop any part of a YouTube video

Mark where the section starts and ends, and it plays over and over until you stop it. You can slow it down, add a pause between repeats, or send the loop to someone as a link.

Keyboard shortcuts

How it works

How to loop a section of a YouTube video

    Paste the video link

    Copy the link from the address bar or YouTube’s Share button, and paste it into the box above.

    Mark the section

    Drag the start and end handles, or press I and O as the video plays. If it’s slightly off, the zoomed timeline and 0.1-second nudges will fix it.

    Turn on Loop and play

    Loop is already on. Press Preview to hear it go round, change the speed if you want, then save. The link you get opens straight into the loop.

Why loop a section instead of dragging the progress bar back

When you drag back by hand, you land somewhere slightly different each time and lose a few seconds finding your place. A loop starts at the same point every time, so you can keep your mind on the guitar lick, the dance count or the sentence you’re trying to learn.

The loop is saved as a link, too. Open it again tomorrow, or on your phone, and you don’t have to hunt for the moment again.

Settings for practice

  • Speed anywhere from 0.25× to 2×, in 0.05 steps.
  • Repeat it a set number of times, or keep going until you stop it.
  • A pause after each repeat, so you can play it or say it back.
  • A lead-in that starts a few seconds early, so you can count yourself in.
  • A speed trainer that starts slow and gets a bit faster each time round.

Share the loop

When you save, you get a short link like lessoncues.com/c/abc123. Anyone who opens it gets the same section, looping at your speed. They can change the settings on their screen without touching yours. Clips made without an account are deleted after 30 days; sign in with Google to keep them.

Questions

Can I loop just part of a YouTube video?

Yes. Paste the link on LessonCues, set the start and end, and leave Loop on. Only that section repeats.

Does the loop work on phones?

Yes. It runs in the browser, so phones, tablets and computers all work. On some phones you have to tap the video once before it starts.

Can I loop a section and slow it down at the same time?

Yes. Pick any speed from 0.25× to 2× and the loop stays at that speed. Or turn on the speed trainer and it goes up a step on each repeat.

Is anything downloaded?

No. The loop plays in YouTube’s official embedded player. All we save is the video ID, your times and your settings.
